“Yeah that’s typical”. Sometimes when we hear it, it is the kiss of death. Others times we are yearning to return.
The story is way overdone. Regular somebody decides to throw caution to the wind and unleash their amazing hidden talent for the world to experience and becomes obscenely rich, and lonely and discouraged, and wishing they could just go back.
Things of which daydreams are made and Oscars are won. Face it, It’s a lot easier to fantasize about going there that actually summoning up the courage to take just one step in that direction.
You know what it is, you know yourself well enough. What would make you not typical, you know, out of the ordinary? What self enforced boundaries’ need consideration, what well worn paths of behavior / preference / habit need to be reviewed?
What renewal should be pursued? There are so many roads. There is something you alone have been given, there is a purpose inside that has been there from the start. How you find it and how you will express it is also uniquely, you.
“‘cause I know there’s got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I’m feelin’ like its now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?”
Paul Meany – MUTEMATH
All of the rich, lonely, discouraged people in the tired old story line wanted to go back because of the crushing weight of fame. Where all sense of self is disremembered, replaced by the consuming need to be recognized as the best. Every mountain has a summit. If you think you have arrived, there is only down.
If you have breath, you have choice, if you have choice, you can. Avoiding typical is never about abandoning self, it is about discovering and expressing self.
